What We Do

What We Do

The Feminist Humanist Alliance is a multi-issue movement powered by and for women, transpeople, and genderqueer people to fight for social justice. We are united to create inclusive and diverse spaces for activists and allies on the local and national level. Below are a few areas of focus for the Feminist Humanist Alliance.

Reproductive Rights

We champion reproductive freedom, abortion rights, and other health issues. FHA fully supports access to safe and legal abortion, to effective birth control and emergency contraception, to reproductive health services and education for all women. We oppose attempts to restrict these rights through legislation, regulation, or constitutional amendment.

For these reasons, we have partnered with NARAL Pro-Choice America. NARAL is a national organization that engages in political action and advocacy efforts to oppose restrictions on abortion and expand access to abortion. This collaboration offers unique ways humanists can help support NARAL's important work!

We are also a national partner with Act for Women. Act for Women is a project of the Center For Reproductive Rights and is a national initiative supporting the Women’s Health Protection Act—federal legislation designed to enforce and protect the right of every woman to decide for herself whether to continue or end a pregnancy, regardless of where she lives. As a part of this collective advocacy campaign, the Feminist Humanist Alliance fights for women's health, safety, and right to abortion care above politics.

Racial Justice

We recognize the various ways white supremacy disenfranchises racial minorities. In order for humanists to engage in efforts to produce racial justice, we partner with Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ), a national network of individuals and groups organizing, mobilizing, and educating white people to act as part of a multi-racial majority for justice with passion and accountability.

LGBTQ Equality

We are committed to fighting discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. In order to more fully embody inclusive humanism, we support and work with the LGBTQ Humanist Alliance.

Through our collaborative effort with the LGBTQ Humanist Alliance, we combat queer-antagonism and promote equality by working with the National LGBTQ Taskforce and the Trans United Fund. Interested in helping fight social and political marginalization that targets LGBTQ people? We provide opportunities for you to participate with these organizations.

Voting Rights

We affirm the importance of having our voices heard. Voting is one key to gaining agency and the right to self-determination. In order to receive the latest updates regarding legislative priorities, efforts to improve elections and educate voters, we urge members to sign up for action alerts through the League of Women Voters!
